When you check your bike in, a qualified mechanic will inspect your bike and recommend the service your bike require.

We consult with you before the work begins

We respect your right to limit the repairs to your bicycle. It’s our duty to let you know what the problems are.

Small repairs, such as flats and quick brake or gear adjustments can usually be handled while you wait.

Got a flat? We’ll fix it while you wait. It doesn’t matter when you come in.

Please bring your bike in if you suspect a problem. We would rather get it taken care of sooner than later.

Besides the above service checks, you have a free full tune available to you within the year of purchase.

Our tune-ups are thorough and professional. Your bike will be detailed and washed, lubed and adjusted. We’ll consult with you if parts are needed.

Please Note: New bicycle frames are guaranteed by the manufacturer from 5 years to life. Some conditions may apply. Coastal Cycles guarantees the proper operation of your bike for one year from the date of purchase. Coastal Cycles is here to represent you, the customer, not bicycle and part suppliers. If you ever have a legitimate problem with anything we sell or supply, we’ll go to bat for you.

Regular Service Prices

Service & Safety Check …$29.99

Designed for persons with bicycles that operate but have been stored for an extended period. Or perhaps just before an extended ride or tour. Perhaps your Bike Camp or riding instructor wants your bike certified safe before you can begin. We assure that all systems are go, from shifting to braking and that nothing is loose or under cinched. Tires are aired and chain is lubed. Recommendations for further repairs are noted for you on your bill when you pick up your bike.

Complete Tune up and cleaning… $54.99

Full tune-up. Though we provide many other services, this is the key service to maintaining a bike in good running order. Once a year for pleasure riders, twice a year for commuters.

Wheels trued, cones adjusted as necessary, Brake cables lubed, shifter cables lubed, chain lubed, effective shifting and braking assured, seat tube lubed, bike test ridden, recommendations for your consideration. No extra labor charges for small parts installation . i.e, brake pads and cables

Your bike will ride as well as possible.. In some cases it may ride better than when your first got it.

With over 25 years experience, we also specialize in tuning and repairing Recumbent bicycles. Regardless of what make or type of recumbent you have we can service it for you. Old, new and European models supported.

Let us box your bike for shipping

Ensuring your bike gets there in one piece, we partially disassemble your bike and add padding where needed. Airlines can be rough on cargo, so pay a pro to do it right to ensure you have a bike to ride when you get to your destination. Cost $30.

Cars and Bikes. Who’s who?

I’ve been thinking about Old Man Warner in relation to the attitudes that many people have towards cycling and cyclists.

Those of us who are cycling advocates regard cycling as a form of mobility that improves individual lives, communities, economies, and the environment. To us, more cycling equals progress.

Whereas Old Man Warner thinks, “Next thing you know, they’ll be wanting to go back to living in caves, nobody work any more.”

None of us alive today have ever lived in a world without cars, and neither have the Old Man Warner’s of our world. Cars run through our traditions, our rites of passage, what it means to be a credible, respectable, functional member of society; what it means to be socially mobile.

We, of course, know that there have not always been motor vehicles and the enabling infrastructure. We are taught in school that Henry Ford “invented” the automobile in 1908. But we hardly remember the names of other great Americans, such as Prometheus who brought us fire, and Alexander Fleming who discovered penicillin.

Some of us even are aware that cyclists are responsible for the first public paved roads.

But try telling that to Old Man Warner.

To him, cycling — even accommodating cyclists — represents regression; even a slippery slope towards total societal corrosion.

Regression in maturity: An adult who rides a bike looks like childish.
Regression of civilization: In the “Third World,” people ride bikes because those societies are backwards.
Regression of economic class: Cycling is the transportation choice of last resort for the poor, who obviously aspire to own a car.
Regression in social standing: Anyone on a bike, if they can afford a car, must have a DUI or other shameful reason for it.

Did I leave out any of the stigmata of cycling?

The problem is that Old Man Warner is flat wrong about what it would mean to abandon the lottery. And his wrongness perpetuates a tragic practice. Everyone in the community perpetuates the practice; Old Man Warner is merely it’s most outspoken defender.
